Does any insurance policy cover pre-existing diseases?

OLM Desk

I am 40, my wife is 38 and we have a 4-year-old son who has congenital heart defect, which may require surgery in future. Can I insure him with this declaration? - Asmit Rai, Lucknow

It’s unfortunate to hear about your son’s condition. Typically insurers do not cover for pre-existing diseases, so you should make a full declaration of your son’s heart condition when applying for a family floater health policy. They should cover him for other ailments, and exclude any problems that may arise due to a faulty heart. You should never hide the health condition when taking insurance as the claim can be refused for non disclosure.
