The Haryana government launched the scheme to provide access to essential health services for the elderly under one roof.
In the first phase, Sewa Ashrams were established at Jagadhri, Sonipat, Hisar, Bahadurgarh, Sirsa and Gurugram for seniors.
Senior citizens will be provided with a place to stay for assisted care and other support.
The ashrams will organise social and group activities for senior citizens to promote their mental health.
It will prioritise the well-being of sick and physically challenged people by offering all-round medical and nursing care in the ashrams.
NGOs having senior care experience can also apply to run these ashrams.
Applicants must be permanent residents of Haryana to be eligible for the scheme.
