Mahila Samman Savings Certificate (MSSC)

MSSC is a government-supported small savings scheme to support women and girls. It provides a safe investment option with guaranteed returns to women.

No Extension In Date

Union Budget 2025 did not extend the MSSC scheme, so women investors can contribute only until the deadline i.e., March 31, 2025.

Eligibility

A woman or a girl is eligible for an MSSC account in their name. Additionally, a guardian can also open an account on behalf of a minor girl.

Interest Rates

The scheme offers a guaranteed return of 7.5 per cent, which is higher than most bank fixed deposits.

Investment Limit

The minimum investment starts at Rs 1,000, while the maximum limit is capped at Rs 2 lakh per fiscal year.  

Two-Year Maturity Period

The scheme matures in two years, after which the investor receives the principal amount along with accumulated interest.  

Partial Withdrawal And Taxation 

After one year, up to 40 per cent of the balance can be withdrawn, but the interest earned is taxable as per the individual’s tax slab.
