With the increasing cases of cyber scams happening, especially with the elderly, Meta has rolled out new tools to protect seniors from online scams.
The company aims to make the digital space safer and to protect users of all ages. It is widely noticed that scammers target the elderly. In order to safeguard this audience, the company has made efforts to identify and minimise the scammers.
On WhatsApp, users will now get to see a warning if they try to share their screen with an unknown contact during video calls.
Meta has expanded tools like passkeys across its apps like Facebook and Instagram, which enables users to log in using their fingerprints, face or PIN.
Meta has teamed up with India's Department of Telecommunications for the "Scams Se Bacho" campaign. With it's multilingual videos aimed at reaching a wider audience.
Meta has blocked over 8 million scam-linked accounts and over 21,000 fake customer service pages so far this year.
Never share Social Security numbers or bank details, and avoid clicking links in messages and refrain from posting complaints on public forums with these details, where scammers may impersonate support agents.
