The e-Shram portal allows unorganised workers to get access to various government social schemes aimed at improving their welfare and livelihood.
In a major step towards improving accessibility for India's informal workforce, the government has enhanced the e-Shram portal to include support for all 22 Scheduled Languages.
Earlier the available languages were only English, Hindi, Kannada, and Marathi, but now the portal enables workers across the country to register and avail benefits in their native languages.
The e-Shram portal has become crucial in linking unorganised workers, including gig workers, platform workers, and construction labourers, with vital social schemes. With more than 30,000 registrations each day, it reflects the increasing confidence among unorganised workers.
The government in order to improve the e-Shram portal plans to incorporate both central and state schemes, integrating payment gateways for seamless benefit transfers and collaborating with intermediaries.
