The RBI has highlighted five security features of Rs 500 banknotes that can help people check whether a note is genuine during cash transactions.
The see-through register is a security feature on the Rs 500 note. It is placed on the bottom left side of the note. When the note is held against the light, the incomplete parts on both sides align, and the numeral 500 becomes clearly visible.
The Rs 500 note carries a Mahatma Gandhi watermark and electrotype numeral 500. These features become visible when the note is held against the light.
The note has a windowed security thread with भारत, RBI and 500 inscriptions. The thread changes colour from green to blue when the note is tilted.
The colour-changing numeral 500 is printed on the lower right side of the note. Its ink changes from green to blue with a change in viewing angle.
The Rs 500 note has raised or intaglio printing on Gandhi’s portrait, Ashoka Pillar emblem, RBI seal, guarantee clause, Governor’s signature and identification mark.
The RBI advises people to spend a few seconds checking security features like watermark, security thread and colour-changing ink to avoid accepting counterfeit notes.
