In 2024, India’s top 10 monuments welcomed 26.69 million domestic visitors and about 3 million foreign tourists, according to the ASI survey compiled by the India Tourism Data Compendium 2025.
The iconic Taj Mahal is ranked one and welcomed 6.26 million domestic visitors, accounting for 11.55 per cent of all monument visits in India.
The Sun Temple in Konarak holds the second spot, receiving 3.57 million visitors, which makes up 6.59 per cent of domestic tourism.
Delhi’s Qutub Minar is ranked three, attracting 3.20 million domestic visitors, representing 5.91 per cent of total visits to monuments.
The historic Red Fort comes in at four, drawing 2.88 million visitors, which is 5.32 per cent of domestic tourism.
Bibi Ka Maqbara, also called the “Mini Taj,” holds the fifth rank with 2 million visitors, accounting for 3.70 per cent of total domestic visits.
The famous Ellora Caves are ranked sixth, visited by 1.74 million people, representing 3.21 per cent of domestic tourism.
Golkonda Fort is at the seventh place, seeing 1.56 million domestic visitors, making up 2.88 per cent of visits to monuments.
Agra Fort ranks eighth, attracting 1.55 million visitors, which accounts for 2.85 per cent of total monument visits.
Upper Fort Aguada is ranked ninth, welcoming 1.36 million visitors, making up 2.51 per cent of domestic tourism.
Hyderabad’s Charminar holds the 10th rank with 1.34 million visitors, representing 2.48 per cent of total domestic monument visits.
