BC Sakhi Yojana was launched by the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government in 2020. It is a scheme for promoting women's financial inclusion.
The aim of the scheme is to provide banking services to the villagers and to generate employment opportunities for women.
The Banking Correspondent Sakhis or BC Sakhis are the correspondents of the scheme. Nearly, 50,000 women have so far been trained under this scheme.
With this scheme, it is now easy for the villagers to access to the financial services. BC Sakhis are now present in the villages to help the people.
The services offered by BC Sakhis include cash deposits and withdrawals. Balance inquiries and pension disbursal-related help is also provided.
To become a sakhi, a candidate needs a minimum qualification of a Class 10 pass and must be digitally literate in using the devices.
Candidates who are shortlisted are given professional training which is provided by the Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs)
This scheme is a step towards more inclusivity and empowerment of the rural women. It is more than just a banking sector's development.
