Outlook Money
UPI is very commonly used in India, and payments are super fast, but sometimes due to small mistakes, money can go to the wrong UPI ID, so it’s important to know what to do next.
Once money is sent to the wrong UPI ID, it usually gets credited instantly into that account. Most of the time, the system cannot reverse it automatically.
First thing users should do is take a screenshot of the transaction. Also note down details like transaction ID, time, date, amount and the wrong UPI ID.
If possible, try to reach out to the person who received the money and ask for a refund in a polite way. Sometimes the issue gets solved just by talking to them directly.
If the person doesn’t respond, then go to your UPI app and raise a complaint from the help or report option of that transaction.
If still not resolved, contact your bank's customer care or visit the branch. They can check the case using the transaction reference number.
Recovery is not always guaranteed and often depends on the recipient’s cooperation. Always double-check the UPI ID before sending money, as even a small mistake can lead to a big issue.
