Many bank customers are confused about whether banks would be closed on January 13 or 14, on the occasion of Lohri. Banks will remain closed in Gujarat, Odisha, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on January 14, 2026. Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu falls on January 14 this year, which are celebrated in different parts of the country.

Banks will remain closed in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on January 15, 2026. The reason for this closure is festivals, such as Uttarayana Punyakala, Pongal and Maghe Sankranti or Makara Sankranti, depending on the state.

While branches will remain closed in these states on those specific holidays, most digital banking services, such as Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Netbanking and ATM withdrawals will remain available.
