Bima Sakhi: 'Helping Bridge Insurance Penetration Gap In Rural And Semi-Urban Areas'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday visited Panipat to inaugurate “Bima Sakhi Yojana,” a scheme that will provide training to one lakh women and pay them monthly wages of Rs.7,000, Rs.6,000 and Rs.5,000 for the first, second and third year respectively and will also allow them to become an insurance agent of LIC. "Once the training is successfully completed, participants will become LIC agents, helping bridge the gap in insurance penetration in rural and semi-urban areas,” said Sitharaman. This scheme aims to provide financial training and employment to empower and uplift women from the age of 18-70 years old who have studied till 10th grade.

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in an event in Haryana that approximately 35,000 women will be appointed initially as Bima Sakhis and the scheme will have a target of total 2 lakhs in the next three years.

As PM Modi launched the scheme “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” back in 2015, to improve the skewed sex ratio in Panipat. He laid the foundation for the main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University at Karnal.

The 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' scheme, launched with an initial funding of Rs 100 Crore, aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve welfare services for girls. The new initiative aligns with the government's vision of empowering women in a developed India.

The city was adorned with 5,000 hoardings welcoming the prime minister and a couple thousand women participated in the grand event.

Union Minister Sitharaman announced that the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is implementing various schemes aimed at empowering women, ahead of the launch of the ambitious 'Bima Sakhi Yojana' in Haryana.

To enroll the eligible candidates need to submit, age proof, address proof, government ID and education certification.
