"Acts of war are typically excluded from standard travel insurance policies. Most of the travel insurance plans include a war exclusion clause. It means that losses resulting from events such as war will be excluded from coverage. The primary reason behind this is that war-related events and losses are difficult to predict or insure against," says Aashish Sethi, head - health SBU and travel, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance. 

You Can Opt For Specialized Cover 

Yes, customers can opt for specialized insurance coverage for high-risk zones. Customers can opt for riders or add-ons with their standard travel insurance policies. These riders or add-ons can provide you with extra coverage for medical emergencies, evacuations, and trip cancellations/interruptions due to political violence, terrorist incidents, or travel prohibitions declared by the government or airline. 

"Remember that these coverages come with additional costs above a standard travel insurance policy. Coverage details, limitations, and costs may vary from insurer to insurer. High-risk travel insurance with additional riders or add-ons provides some coverage, but it comes with extra cost and some limitations, too. It is always important to review your policy details," says Sethi.

"Acts of war refer to hostile actions between nations or between organized armed forces. Standard travel insurance policies exclude coverage for acts of war and civil unrest," says Sethi. 

These events can significantly impact the availability of insurance coverage and the potential for claims to be paid. It is essential to review your insurance policy carefully to understand the coverage and exclusions and their impact on your claim. Also, it is recommended that one avoid travel in such areas until necessary.
