Bitcoin Heads For Rare Three-Month Winning Streak Since 2012: Can The Rally Hold?

Bitcoin is on track to post three consecutive monthly gains for the first time since 2012, with the cryptocurrency rising in July and August 2026 and extending those gains into September. Bitcoin also crossed the $87,000 mark in September, reaching the level for the first time since January 2026, as the cryptocurrency continued its recent recovery.

Bitcoin Rises For Third Straight Month

Bitcoin ended June at $58,558.86 and rose to $62,813.75 by the end of July, a monthly gain of 7.27 per cent. Bitcoin touched a high of $65,328.18 on July 31, 2026. The rally strengthened in August, with Bitcoin rising to $78,548.63 by the end of the month, marking a 25.05 per cent gain from its July-end level. It reached $79,247.35 on August 31, its highest level in the data provided for the month.

Bitcoin was at $84,379.06 as on September 24, 2026, up 7.42 per cent from its close at August-end. It touched $84,876.23 on September 24. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading at around $84,118.

What Happened After Bitcoin’s Last Three-Month Streak

Bitcoin has recorded a three-month winning streak only once before, with the previous instance occurring in 2012. According to a CoinDesk report, Bitcoin gained 41 per cent, 6.4 per cent and 24.40 per cent over three consecutive months that year.

While the three-month winning streak in 2012 was followed by a 9.70 per cent decline in October, Bitcoin later rebounded sharply. The cryptocurrency fell to $10.17 on October 26, 20212 before rising to $230 by April 2013, according to the report.

What Is Driving Bitcoin’s Current Rally?

The 2012 streak offers historical context, but the current rally is being driven by a different market structure.

Prateek Gupta, head of business, Mudrex, said the three-month winning streak is notable, but should not be treated as a predictive signal. “The 2012 comparison is interesting, but the sample is too small to establish a reliable seasonal pattern,” he said.

He added that demand for exchange-traded funds (ETFs), institutional accumulation, regulatory developments, and technical momentum have supported the rally. However, the next test is whether organic spot demand continues after the short-covering effect fades.

Can Bitcoin’s Rally Hold?

The sustainability of the rally will also depend on how Bitcoin performs in October 2026 after the recent gains. Rajagopal Menon, vice president, WazirX, said, “A straight-line advance should not be assumed after such strong gains,” adding that Bitcoin could see some consolidation as the market tests whether recent resistance levels can turn into support.

He said Bitcoin would need to sustain levels above $82,500-85,000, while $81,500 could act as a key support level in the near term. Bitcoin’s next phase will show whether the recent gains develop into a longer recovery or give way to a period of consolidation.
