Millennials and investors from non-metro cities continued to drive crypto trading activity during the first half of 2026, according to the WazirX India Crypto Trends Report H1 2026. The report, based on trading activity on the WazirX platform, shows investor demographics, trading behaviour and regional preferences among Indian crypto users.

Millennials, Non-Metro Users Lead Participation

The report found that users aged 25 to 34 accounted for 50.8 per cent of the platform’s user base, while nearly 80 per cent of users belonged to the 25 to 44 age group. Users aged 18-24 accounted for 6.8 per cent of the user base, while those above 45 represented 13 per cent. The average WazirX user is a 34-year-old working professional.

More than 82 per cent of verified users came from non-metro cities, while metro users accounted for 17.3 per cent of the platform’s user base. Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Jaipur, Surat, Ahmedabad and Lucknow emerged as the top 10 cities by user share on the platform.

It further highlighted a significant gender gap in crypto participation. Men accounted for 90 per cent of users, while women represented 10 per cent.

During H1 2026, trading activity peaked around 3 PM IST, while Fridays emerged as the busiest trading day as investors appeared to reposition their portfolios before the weekend. In comparison, the average Futures trade size was nearly 13 times larger than Spot trades. The report also noted that more than 93 per cent of Futures users remained active Spot traders.

Bitcoin, Ethereum Among Key Assets Traded By Users

Stablecoins accounted for 38.5 per cent of the platform’s total trading volume during H1 2026, making them the preferred liquidity gateway for investors. Bitcoin, Ethereum and other Layer-1 assets contributed 28.4 per cent of trading volume, while meme coins attracted the highest number of unique traders.

Regional preferences for digital assets also varied across the country. According to the report, TRON and XRP were more popular among investors in southern India, while SOL and DOGE witnessed stronger participation in western states. SHIB remained a preferred token among users in eastern India, whereas SHIB and XRP were among the commonly traded altcoins across northern and central regions.

The data also highlighted improving participation following WazirX’s platform restart. It said 95 per cent of post-restart trading activity came from returning users, while nearly one in seven returning traders added fresh capital. Deposits continued to outpace withdrawals during the first half of the year, reflecting renewed participation among users on the platform.
