At 10:45 am, the BSE Sensex was down 997.68 points, or 1.35 per cent, at 72,898.06. The NSE Nifty 50 fell 313.70 points, or 1.36 per cent, to 22,826.80.
The sell-off extended beyond the benchmark indices, with the broader market also coming under pressure. The Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices were down around 1.25 per cent and 1.32 per cent, respectively, at the same time.
