Stock Market Holiday: NSE, BSE To Remain Closed Today For Ganesh Chaturthi

The Indian stock market will remain closed on Monday, September 14, as the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) observe a trading holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi. Trading across the equity segment will resume on Tuesday, September 15. Equity derivatives trading will also remain shut on Monday.

September 14 is listed as a trading holiday in the 2026 calendars of both exchanges. Investors will not be able to buy or sell shares on the BSE or NSE today.

Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birth of Lord Ganesha and is celebrated across several parts of the country. The festival is particularly prominent in Maharashtra, where devotees install Ganesha idols and hold prayers and other rituals.

Stock Market Holidays 2026

After today's holiday, the stock market will have five more scheduled trading holidays in 2026. The next holiday is Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, followed by Dussehra on October 20.

The exchanges will remain closed on November 10 for Diwali-Balipratipada and on November 24 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev. The final scheduled market holiday of the year will be Christmas on December 25.

The exchanges will also conduct a special Muhurat Trading session for Diwali Laxmi Pujan on Sunday, November 8. The BSE and NSE are expected to announce the timings for the special trading session separately.

Stock Market Trading Timings

On a regular trading day, the equity market pre-open session begins at 9 AM and continues until 9:08 AM, with random closure during the final minute. The regular trading session runs from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM.

The closing session is held from 3:50 PM to 4 PM. The exchanges can change trading hours or declare additional holidays if required.

Indian equities ended lower for the fifth straight week on September 11. The Sensex fell 2.27 per cent during the week to 74,781.76, while the Nifty 50 declined 2.09 per cent to 23,398.10.

Rising crude oil prices, higher global bond yields and concerns over US inflation kept investors cautious ahead of the new trading week.
