The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to modernise the property registration ecosystem with a series of technology-driven reforms aimed at making home buying transparent, efficient, and secure. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recently directed the officials to strengthen digital governance in the Stamp and Registration Department, as per PTI. The focus is on paperless registration, Aadhaar-based authentication, biometric verification, AI-based scrutiny, and digital land records.

The state of Uttar Pradesh is witnessing rapid urbanisation, and these reforms come timely. Rising real estate activity and growing investment across residential and commercial segments are seen. The same meeting revealed that nearly 2.4 crore citizens interact with the registration offices annually. The government believes that modernisation is necessary to make sure there’s an improvement in how real estate formalities are viewed and executed.

What Is The Key Proposal?

One of the key proposals is the development of sub-registrar offices on the lines of passport service centres. The facility is expected to feature digital queue management systems, help desks, modern waiting areas and even online services. For aspirational homebuyers, these measures could significantly reduce the waiting time spent on completing property registrations and reduce the hurdles.

These reforms are beyond convenience; they are expected to strengthen transaction security. Property fraud is a constant concern when it comes to real estate decisions. The state plans to expand the use of Aadhaar authentication along with biometric and iris-based verification during registrations.
