Sensex Closes 300 Points Up; Nifty Above 24,800 As IT, Metal, Realty Stocks Gain

Sensex, Nifty Today: Shares of IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharmaceutical, Eternal and Adani Ports emerged as top gainers among Nifty 50 stocks

Share Market Today: The headline indices closed in the green on May 29, 2025 amid easing volatility. The 30-share Sensex ended higher at 81,633.02 up by 320.7 points or 0.39 per cent. The Nifty 50 ended the session at 24,833.6 up by 81.15 points or 0.33 per cent.

HDFC Life Insurance Emerges As Top Loser

Shares of IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharmaceutical, Eternal and Adani Ports emerged as top gainers among Nifty 50 stocks. Shares of private sector lender IndusInd Bank gained the most as they closed higher by 2.47 per cent on the NSE. As many as 13 constituents of the index led by HDFC Life Insurance, Bharat Electronics and Tata Consumer Products closed in the red. Shares of HDFC Life Insurance declined the most as they closed 1.07 per cent lower.

Nifty SmallCap 100 Rallies For Fifth Session

The Nifty MidCap 100 ended higher by 0.55 per cent on the NSE. On the other hand, the Nifty SmallCap 100 index continued its rally for the fifth straight session.

The India VIX declined 9.01 per cent, indicating easing volatility in the upcoming sessions. Nifty Realty, Nifty Metals and the Nifty IT index gained the most among the sectoral pack, closing higher by as much as 1.14 per cent.

Global Markets On May 29

The Dow Jones Futures closed higher by 0.68 per cent. Other key Wall Street indices ended lower as the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite closed in the red, down by as low as 0.56 per cent.

At the time of writing, the Asian market was trading with an upward trend as the Nikkei 225, Straits Times, Hang Seng and the Shanghai Composite traded higher by as much as 1.85 per cent.

Primary Market Action

Shares of Unified Data-Tech Solutions made their D-Street debut on the BSE SME platform on May 29. The bidding window of four public issues namely Astonea Labs’ initial public offering (IPO), Nikita Papers IPO, Blue Water Logistics IPO and Prostarm Info Systems IPO closed on May 29.

Market Cues

A US Federal court had on Wednesday stopped US President Donald Trump from imposing reciprocal tariffs. On the other hand, US Federal Reserve officials stated that the US could face “difficult trade-offs” like rising inflation and increasing unemployment. Closer home, India’s industrial production growth declined to 2.7 per cent in April 2025. D-Street is likely to factor in these developments over the course of the next few sessions.
