Share Market Today: Sensex Sheds Over 200 Points; Nifty Slips Below 24,800 As SmallCap Stocks Extend Rally

Stock Market News: The Nifty MidCap 100 snapped its gaining spree on May 28, closing lower by 0.02 per cent. However, the Nifty SmallCap 100 extended gains amid a decline in the headline indices. The SmallCap index closed higher by 0.33 per cent.

Stock Market Today: The headline indices finished lower for the second straight day with the BSE Sensex and the Nifty 50 declining 0.3 per cent each. The Sensex ended at 81,312.32 shedding 239.31 points or 0.29 per cent. The Nifty 50 closed lower by 73.75 points or 0.3 oer cent at 24,752.45.

IndusInd Bank, Apollo Hospitals And Ultratech Cement Decline

IndusInd Bank, Apollo Hospitals And Ultratech Cement came out as the top-losers among Nifty 50 constituents on May 28 as they ended 1.93 per cent lower on the NSE. On the other hand shares of HDFC Life Insurance, Bharat Electronics, Bajaj Finance and thirteen other companies closed in the green by as high as 1.51 per cent.

Broader Market Indices End Mixed

The Nifty MidCap 100 snapped its gaining spree on May 28 closing lower by 0.02 per cent. However, the Nifty SmallCap 100 bucked the trend amid a decline in the headline indices closing higher by 0.33 per cent. Most sectoral indices ended in the red on May 28 apart from the Nifty Bank index which closed higher by 0.12 per cent.

Global Markets On May 28

On May 28 key European indices such as the DAX Performance Index, CAC 40 and FTSE 100 witnessed declines of up to 0.17 per cent at the time of writing. Asian indices traded mixed with the Straits Times trading higher by up to 0.53 per cent. However the Hang Seng and the Shanghai Composite traded lower by 0.53 per cent at the time of writing.

Primary Market Action

Shares of Dar Credit and Capital Limited and Belrise Industries Ltd made their D-Street debut on May 28. On the other hand the public issues of Scoda Tubes, N R Vandana Tex Industries and Neptune Petrochemicals Ltd opened for bidding. The subscription window of Aegis Vopak Terminals Ltd and Schloss Bangalore Ltd’s public issues closed today.

Market Cues

The Industrial production and manufacturing output numbers for April 2025 will be released today; d-street is expected to factor in the impact of the data in the upcoming sessions.
