Stock Market News: Sensex Adds Over 440 Points, Nifty Reclaims 25,000 As Benchmarks End Losing Streak

Stock Market Today: Benchmark indices began the week on a positive note as the Nifty 50 and the Sensex snapped a two-day losing streak. The 30-share Sensex closed in the green at 82,200.34, adding 442.61 points or 0.54 per cent. The Nifty 50 also gained 122.3 points or 0.49 per cent to end the session at 25,090.7 amid a rally in banking and metal stocks.

Eternal, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank Lead Gainers

Shares of Eternal Ltd, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank led the gainers on July 21 as they finished the session higher by 7.5 per cent. Other major gainers included Mahindra & Mahindra and HDFC Life Insurance Company, which closed higher by 1.69 per cent and 1.68 per cent, respectively. On the other hand shares of Reliance Industries, Wipro and IndusInd Bank emerged as the top-drags as they closed lower by as much as 3.24 per cent.

Nifty Bank and Nifty Metal Lead Gainers

The Nifty Bank index and the Nifty Metal index emerged as top-gainers among all sectoral indices as they closed 1.19 per cent and 1.03 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, the Nifty FMCG and the Nifty Oil & Gas index finished the session lower, 1.09 per cent and 0.5 per cent, respectively. While the benchmark indices ended higher, the broader markets closed flat, with the Nifty SmallCap 100 index ending the session lower by 0.01 per cent and the Nifty MidCap 100 index ending the session higher by 0.62 per cent. The India VIX ended the session lower by 1.66 per cent.

Global Markets on July 21

US markets ended mixed on July 18, with the Nasdaq closing with minor gains of 0.05 per cent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 finishing in the red, down by 0.32 per cent and 0.01 per cent, respectively. Asian indices ended the session with modest gains on July 21 as the Hang Seng, KOSPI and Shanghai Composite finished the session higher by up to 0.71 per cent.

Shares of Anthem Biosciences and Spunweb Nonwoven were listed on the exchanges on July 21. On the other hand Savy Infra & Logistics IPO, Swastika Castal IPO and Property Share Investment Trust REIT SM REIT opened for bidding.

Market Cues

D-street is expected to respond to the impact of companies declaring their financial results for the June quarter of FY 26. The market is also likely to factor in the continued uncertainty regarding ongoing trade negotiations between the US and India.
