Stock Market News: Sensex Declines 380 Points, Nifty Holds 25,000 As Headline Indices End Winning Spree

Headline indices finished a three-session gaining spree on September 19, 2025. The Sensex closed at 82,626.23, down by 387.73 points or 0.47 per cent. The Nifty 50 closed at 25,327.05, down by 96.55 points or 0.38 per cent. The headline indices finished lower, as investors booked profits after the three-session gaining spree, leading to broad-based sell-offs. However, sectors such as information technology (IT), fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and private banks bore the brunt of the selling pressure.

Top Losers On September 19

Shares of HCL Technologies, ICICI Bank, Trent and Titan led the losers among Nifty 50 stocks, as they closed lower by as much as 1.59 per cent on the NSE. On the other hand, shares of Adani Enterprises, SBI Life Insurance Company and IndusInd Bank led the gainers, finishing the session higher by as much as 5.25 per cent on the NSE. The Nifty 50 finished the week with 23 advances and 27 declines.

Nifty IT and Nifty Consumer Durables Decline

On September 19, the Nifty IT and the Nifty Consumer Durables index finished the session in the red, down by 0.47 per cent and 0.65 per cent, respectively. The two indices led the losers among sectoral indices. The broader market indices extended gains despite the selloffs in the large-cap space. The Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty MidCap 100 finished the session with gains of 0.15 per cent and 0.04 per cent, respectively.

Global Markets On September 19

Asian market indices finished the session in the red. The Nikkei 225, KOSPI and the Shanghai Composite closed lower by 0.62 per cent, 0.47 per cent, and 0.30 per cent, respectively. However, the Hang Seng index finished the session with gains of 0.03 per cent. US market indices finished the session in the green on September 18. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 finished the session higher by up to 0.94 per cent.
