Stock Market News: Sensex Rises 142 Points, Nifty Holds 25,000 As Indices Extend Gains

Headline indices extended a winning streak for the sixth straight session on August 21. The Nifty finished the session at 25,083.75, adding 33.2 points or 0.13 per cent. The 30-share Sensex finished the session at 82,000.71, gaining 142.87 points or 0.17 per cent.

Pharma Stocks Lead Nifty Gainers

Cipla Ltd and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories finished the session with gains of 3.09 per cent and 2.61 per cent higher respectively, on the NSE. Shares of Bajaj Finserv and ICICI Bank also finished the session higher by as much as 1.03 per cent. On the other hand, shares of Tata Consumer Products Ltd and Bajaj Auto led the losers, closing lower by 1.57 per cent and 1.56 per cent, respectively.

Nifty Pharma Leads Gainers

The Nifty Pharma and Nifty Realty indices gained the most among the sectoral pack, closing higher by 0.95 per cent and 0.38 per cent, respectively. The Nifty FMCG index declined the most today, closing lower by 0.64 per cent. The Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty MidCap 100 finished the session lower by 0.38 per cent and 0.01 per cent, respectively.

Global Markets On August 21

The Nikkei 225 and the Hang Seng index finished the session lower on August 21, declining 0.62 per cent and 0.39 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, the Shanghai Composite and the KOSPI ended the session in the green, closing with gains of 0.13 per cent and 0.37 per cent, respectively.

ARC Insulation & Insulators IPO opened for subscription on August 21. On the other hand Patel Retail IPO, Vikram Solar IPO, LGT Business Connextions IPO, Gem Aromatics IPO, and Shreeji Shipping Global IPO are scheduled to close today.
