Many Indian states have financial schemes that provide support to the underprivileged sections of society. One such scheme is the Ashirwad scheme of Punjab under which financial assistance is provided to girls for their marriage. The financial assistance can be claimed before the wedding or after 30 days of the wedding. The scheme however is only extended to girls and can be claimed for no more than two girls in a family. The programme is limited to Punjab which dictates that the beneficiary is a resident of Punjab.
