Many Indian states have financial schemes that provide support to the underprivileged sections of society. One such scheme is the Ashirwad scheme of Punjab under which financial assistance is provided to girls for their marriage. The financial assistance can be claimed before the wedding or after 30 days of the wedding. The scheme however is only extended to girls and can be claimed for no more than two girls in a family. The programme is limited to Punjab which dictates that the beneficiary is a resident of Punjab.

How Does The Scheme Benefit The Beneficiaries?

There are key benefits of the scheme extended to the beneficiary classes. The main assistance is financial aid, which is R. 21,000. It eases the financial toll on the parents of a girl child. In addition to benefits for girl child, it also shows the government’s efforts towards financial inclusion of the underserved such as tribal communities, and scheduled caste people. The application procedure is very simple allowing the candidates a hassle-free application experience through the government’s e-portal. Another benefit is that the beneficiary needs only 4 documents for applications which are commonly used in any government scheme - Aadhaar card which is important for the identity of the applicant, a Caste Certificate to prove your background, an income certificate to prove the monthly income is under the limit allowed and lastly, proof of birth which can be provided by a birth certificate of the person.

Who is Eligible to Apply For The Ashirwad Scheme?

To be eligible under the Ashirwad Scheme, a must be domiciled in Punjab and must belong to the SC/ST class. The girl must be above the age of 18 years to be eligible and the family monthly income from all sources must not exceed Rs. 32,790. A family can only claim this scheme’s financial aid for two girl children. Financial assistance is allowed to all girls belonging to tribal communities, scheduled castes, other backward castes, and economically weaker backgrounds, Christian girls of scheduled caste, daughters of widows or widows or a divorcee if she wish to re-marry.
