Govt Cautions Job Seekers Against Fake Recruitment Notices And Websites

Job seekers usually use social media and online platforms to find recruitment notifications and vacancy updates. While scammers also use these platforms to circulate fake notices and target people looking for employment opportunities.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check issued a warning to job seekers and urged them to “Beware of Scams in the Name of Government Jobs!” The agency flagged fake job notices, websites, emails and social media posts that may be used to lure applicants with promises of employment.

How Fake Recruitment Scams Target Job Seekers

According to the PIB’s video, scammers may use attractive recruitment messages to make applicants believe they have been shortlisted or are being considered for a job. They may then ask candidates to complete different steps, such as registration, medical examination or document verification. The video shows examples of scammers asking for payments under different heads, including medical fees, registration charges and document verification fees.

PIB said, “Always obtain recruitment-related information only from official sources and stay cautious of those demanding money.” Job seekers should therefore verify recruitment notifications through the official website of the concerned ministry, department or recruitment agency before applying or making any payment.

Government Logo Does Not Guarantee A Genuine Recruitment Notice

In the video, PIB also warned applicants against trusting a recruitment post or website simply because it carries a government logo or emblem.

Applicants should independently check recruitment details on the official website of the relevant government department or recruitment agency rather than relying only on the appearance of a post or website. The agency also advised people not to share sensitive information such as OTPs, Aadhaar numbers, bank details or passwords in response to suspicious recruitment messages.

Job seekers should be cautious if someone asks for money for selection or guarantees that they will get a job.
