Govt Extends Free Aadhaar Online Update Facility Till June 14, 2025

Citizens can now update their Aadhaar details for free until June 14, 2025 following an extension from the original deadline of December 14, 2024

AADHAAR Update

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), responsible for issuing Aadhaar, has extended the free online document upload facility until June 14, 2025. The service, initially set for June 14, 2024, was first extended to September 14, 2024, and then again to December 14, 2024. The extension is available only on the myAadhaar portal, and UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep Aadhaar details updated.

Thus, individuals wanting to update their Aadhaar details can now do so until June 14, 2025, following an extension from the latest deadline of December 14, 2024.

Incidentally, UIDAI is urging residents, particularly those whose Aadhaar is a decade old and hasn’t been updated, to upload identity and address proof documents for revalidation of their demographic information. If changes are required in demographic details, such as name, date of birth, or address, residents can utilise the online update service or visit the nearest Aadhaar centre.

So, if you need to update your Aadhaar details, you can do so for free before June 14, 2025 on the UIDAI portal.

Why Update Aadhaar? UIDAI, the authority overseeing Aadhaar, requires Indian residents to update their details every 10 years. This ensures that the information in the database stays accurate and current.

The UIDAI has said on its website that “changes in life events such as marriage may lead to residents changing their basic demographic details, such as name and address. Address and mobile number could also change due to migration to newer locations. Residents may also want changes in their relative’s details due to changes in life events such as marriage, death of a relative etc. In addition, residents could have other personal reasons to change their mobile number, email address etc."

Also, the government has introduced rules for updating the Aadhaar details of children. According to these guidelines, residents should provide all biometrics for updates when the child reaches 15 years of age. This will ensure the accuracy and currency of the child’s Aadhaar data as they grow older.
