India’s women’s cricket team has created history by winning their first ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title after defeating South Africa in the final. The victory marked a significant milestone for Indian women’s cricket and was followed by an announcement from the BCCI of a major cash reward for the players and the support staff.

The BCCI has also announced a reward of Rs 51 crore for the entire team, including players, coaches, and support staff.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told ANI, “Last month, ICC chairman Jay Shah announced a 300 per cent increase in the overall prize pool for women’s cricket. Earlier, the prize money was $2.88 million, and now it has been increased to $14 million.”

He added that all these steps have greatly promoted women’s cricket.

How Much Will Team India Earn From The ICC Prize Pool

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced in September a total prize pool of $13.88 million (approximately Rs 123.20 crore) for the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup, a substantial rise from the $3.5 million offered during the 2022 edition held in New Zealand.

The winner’s prize money for the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup has been increased by approximately 239 per cent. Under the revised structure, the winners will receive $4.48 million (approximately Rs 39.80 crore), compared to the $1.32 million awarded to Australia when they clinched the title in 2022.

The runners-up this year will take home $2.24 million (around Rs 19.89 crore), up from $600,000, while the two semifinalists will each get $1.12 million (about Rs 9.94 crore), higher than the $300,000 distributed in the previous tournament.

This marks the largest prize pool in the history of the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Key Moments From The Final Match

India won the title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur.

In the final, Shafali Verma made a big difference by capturing two wickets and scoring 87 runs. A late inclusion in the squad after Pratika Rawal was ruled out due to injury, she played a crucial role in India’s victory. Deepti Sharma was named Player of the Tournament for her consistent all-round performance, scoring 215 runs and claiming 22 wickets during the competition.

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt led a spirited fight for the Proteas Women. She scored 101 off 98 balls in the final, but failed to take her team to the podium finish, as wickets fell in quick succession soon after she got out. She also finished the series as the highest run scorer in a single World Cup tournament with 571 runs in nine innings at an average of 71.37.
