The prize money is part of the IPL’s structured reward system for the season which allocates earnings to teams finishing in the top four positions, including the champions and the runners-up. The distribution is designed to reward performance across different stages of the competition.
Before their breakthrough in 2025, RCB had not won a single IPL trophy. This victory marked their second consecutive title that makes them only the third team after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) to win back-to-back championships in IPL history (2025 and 2026).
The IPL prize distribution awards Rs 20 crore to the champions, RCB, and Rs 12.50 crore to the runners-up, GT. According to multiple media reports, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who finished third and fourth respectively, are reported to receive Rs 7 crore and Rs 6.50 crore, respectively.
The inaugural IPL champions, Rajasthan Royals (RR), received a prize of Rs 4.80 crore in 2008, while runners-up CSK were awarded Rs 2.40 crore. Over the years, the prize money has increased significantly, which shows much the tournament has expanded in scale and value.
Other than the main prize money, individual awards were also presented. The Orange Cap and Purple Cap winners received Rs 10 lakh each, while the Emerging Player of the Season was awarded Rs 10 lakh. The most valuable player (MVP) of the season received Rs 15 lakh.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, just 15 years old, had a standout season, winning the Orange Cap, Emerging Player of the Season, and MVP awards. Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada of GT secured the Purple Cap.
In the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, RCB delivered a dominant performance to defeat GT by 5 wickets. GT scored 155/8 but RCB chased it down comfortably in 18 overs, finishing at 161/5, on account of Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 75. Kohli received the Man of the Match award along with a cheque of Rs 5 lakh.
