IRCTC to Link Aadhaar Verification for Tatkal Bookings From July 2025

Indian Railways is all set to make Aadhaar verification mandatory, starting July 2025, on the IRCTC app for booking Tatkal train tickets. The move seeks to improve transparency and reduce the misuse of the Tatkal booking system. Especially during peak travel season where people tend to misuse the tatkal booking system.

Why Aadhaar Verification is Being Introduced

Tatkal tickets are often booked within minutes of the booking window opening. According to multiple reports which cited many instances of misuse, travel agents have managed to block a large number of Tatkal tickets using unfair methods. To tackle this problem, the IRCTC has made it mandatory for passengers to verify their identity using Aadhaar while booking Tatkal tickets. The move is expected to curb the misuse of the booking software and make sure that tickets are available to genuine passengers in a fair and transparent manner.

Steps to Complete Aadhaar Verification Via IRCTC App

Passengers can complete Aadhaar verification easily using the IRCTC app.

Here is a simple step-by-step guide:

1. Open the official IRCTC app and log in using your credentials.

2. Select 'My Account' and choose the 'Aadhaar KYC' option.

3. To initiate the KYC process enter your  Aadhaar number and click on ‘Verify’.

4.  Once you click on the verify button, an OTP will be sent to the phone number linked to your Aadhaar card

5. Enter the OTP to complete the verification process.

Once verified, your Aadhaar will be linked to your IRCTC account, allowing you to book Tatkal tickets smoothly.

Verification Mandatory for All Tatkal Bookings

Aadhaar verification will mandatory for those users of IRCTC app who wish to book Tatkal tickets. Notably the rule will be enforced by the IRCTC post July 2025. Without Aadhaar verification, users will not be allowed to proceed with the booking under the Tatkal quota.

The verification will be required only once. After linking your Aadhaar card with your IRCTC account, you won’t need to verify it again unless you change your Aadhaar number or account details.

What This Means for Train Passengers
