Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal announced on December 12, 2024 that the monthly allowance for women under the Mahila Samman Rashi scheme will be increased to Rs 2,100 if the party returns to power in the Delhi elections due in early 2025.

The scheme, which was announced in the March Budget and provides beneficiaries an allowance of Rs 1,000 per month, was approved by the Delhi Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Atishi. Kejriwal made an announcement during an election rally pledging to provide Rs 1,000 to every woman in Delhi, adding that they will increase the amount if they return to power in the election.

“Today, I am implementing the Rs 1,000 scheme, but after the elections, I will give Rs 2,100 to all my sisters and mothers in Delhi. If you want to receive this money every month in your account, vote for Kejriwal, Vote for the AAP, and help us win more than 60 seats,” Kejriwal said.

He added that he had made this declaration in March and wanted to execute it by April. “But they imprisoned me in a fake case. But once I was released from jail, I worked on this with Atishi to keep my commitment,” he said.

“The election dates will be announced soon, so women may not receive the amount right away. However, once the polls are over, you will receive the amount every month...My second biggest announcement is that I will increase the amount to Rs 2,100,” he added.

He further said that the registration procedure for the program will commence from December 12, 2024.

Kejriwal has vowed to empower a woman-centred scheme in Delhi, claiming that the government will not face any deficit and its revenue will flourish. He defended the scheme, stating that he can manage accounts well and bring the money. He also appealed to women to vote for the AAP, stating that he is a ‘magician’ and will provide the money. He urged women to vote for the AAP, stating that each vote matters and that the party will win more than 60 seats.

The AAP is aiming to win more than 50 seats and disburse the funds to the beneficiaries under the Mahila Samman Rashi, despite the BJP’s claims that the state government lacks the funds.
