The prices of LPG cylinders in India have increased significantly, which has been affecting households and businesses all across the country. The latest revision of the prices has led to a major rise in the cost of cooking gas, as announced in early March. Reason Behind The Sudden Surge

The recent price rise for LPG rates is tied to the ongoing conflict in the West Asian countries. India is heavily dependent on imports to meet the country-wide LPG demand. A large portion of these imports follows the route of the Strait of Hormuz, where the key disruptions are taking place, which is causing these shortages and uncertainties. This factor is influencing the fuel prices in India.

The step to increase the pricing has influenced the disruptions across India, leading to shortages in LPG availability, especially for commercial users. Restaurants, food vendors, and businesses in the hospitality industry in cities have cited that they are facing difficulty in obtaining commercial cylinders. In many cases, these stakeholders have reduced the extent of services they used to offer to accommodate these constraints.

In order to address this situation, the government is ensuring the distribution of commercial LPG cylinders in several states and is keeping a close eye on the supply cycle. Officials have also advised people to have both piped natural gas connections and LPG subscriptions in order to limit their usage of LPG cylinders. This would ensure that supplies can also reach people who are solely dependent on cooking gas.

Despite this, the authorities have emphasised that the supply situation is being managed and the new incoming shipments are expected to ease this pressure for many in the coming days. Until then, the prices and availability are to remain sensitive and dependent on the situation that unfolds in West Asia.
