As November 2026 approaches, several financial deadlines and changes are close by. Consumer-related developments can affect individuals and pensioners. From submitting pension life certificates to filing income tax returns and checking gold jewellery purity, one should stay updated on how these can help people avoid delays and penalties.
Here are the key financial updates to keep in mind from November 1.
Retired central and state government employees who receive pensions must submit their annual life certificates by November 20, 2026, to ensure that their pension payments are uninterrupted. Pensioners who are aged 80 and above have been eligible to submit their certificates since October 01, 2025, while the submission window for other pensioners begins on November 01, 2026.
This can be submitted physically at a bank branch or digitally through the Jeevan Pramaan facility using Aadhaar-based identification. Pensioners can also use the Department of Posts’ doorstep services.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for audited taxpayers for the financial year 2025-26. The deadline has changed from October 31 to November 21, 2026. This extension applies to eligible taxpayers who are required to have their accounts audited under applicable tax provisions. This deadline is for audited taxpayers like businesses, professionals, companies, partnership firms and limited liability partnerships (LLPs).
Taxpayers should confirm their individual filing requirements and complete the necessary returns and audit reports before the applicable deadline.
The November extension does not apply to salaried taxpayers. For them, the regular ITR filing deadline has already passed. For taxpayers eligible to file belated or revised returns for FY 2025-26, the applicable deadline is December 31, 2026. Late filing may attract fees and could restrict certain tax benefits, depending on the circumstances.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the sale of a 60.72 per cent stake in IDBI Bank to Canada-based Fairfax on October 14, 2026. This transaction is subject to the required regulatory approvals, including clearance from the Reserve Bank of India. Customers’ bank accounts, fixed deposits, recurring deposits, loans and direct benefit transfers are expected to continue under existing arrangements during the process.
Consumers who are purchasing gold jewellery during the festive season should verify its hallmark and purity before completing a transaction.
The Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) is a six-character alphanumeric code stamped on BIS-hallmarked gold jewellery. A BIS hallmark includes the BIS logo, the purity or fineness marking, and the HUID code. Checking these markings can help consumers make more informed purchases and reduce the risk of jewellery-related fraud.
November 2026 brings several financial deadlines that deserve attention.
