Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Bihar's Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on Friday through video conferencing. PM Modi launched the initiative virtually from Delhi, with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and other state ministers joining online from Patna.
At the launch, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana has been inaugurated today. He noted that so far, 75 lakh women had enrolled in the scheme, and Rs 10,000 had already been transferred to the bank accounts of each of these beneficiaries. The total transfer amounted to Rs 7,500 crore.
PM Modi added, "Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to launch the Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Society. Now, the strength of this initiative will be further enhanced by its integration with the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana." He also highlighted that the scheme has strengthened the Central Government's Lakhpati Didi campaign, noting that lakhs of women in Bihar have become Lakhpati Didis, reflecting the broader benefits of women-focused policies.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that ever since he has been in power, he has been continuously working for women's empowerment, according to PTI.
Building on this, he said, "When a government formulates policies with women at the centre, the benefits extend beyond them to other segments of society. The transformative impact of the Ujjwala Yojana is now being recognised globally."
The scheme, introduced by the Bihar government, is aimed at promoting women's self-employment and economic independence. One woman from each family will receive initial financial assistance to begin livelihood activities of her choice. Beneficiaries can use the funds for agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, or other small-scale enterprises.
Each woman will receive an upfront grant of Rs 10,000, with additional assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh possible in later phases. Beyond financial support, the programme includes training via Self Help Groups and community resource persons. Local haats and bazaars are being strengthened to help women market their products, according to PMO.
