PM Announces AI Skilling For 10 Million Youth, Free Online Coaching For Exams

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a major push to help the Indian youth with emerging technology skills, including a nationwide initiative to train 10 million young people in artificial intelligence (AI). In his address to the nation from the Red Fort on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, Modi highlighted the rapid expansion of AI and its growing influence across sectors.

The proposed initiative focuses on preparing young Indians to participate in and lead the global AI ecosystem. With AI being increasingly adopted across all working sectors, the government focuses on large-scale skilling, as it would help in creating a workforce capable of adapting to changing employment opportunities and technological demands, according to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release.

Programme Details

The proposed programme will seek to expand access to AI-related learning among young people, as well as help students and job seekers build capabilities in areas linked to the technology. The government’s broader focus is on developing a digitally-skilled workforce to strengthen India’s position in the global technology landscape.

Free Online Coaching For Students Preparing For Exams

Alongside the AI skilling programme, the Prime Minister also announced free online coaching for young people preparing for various examinations. It was pointed out that the high cost of private coaching is putting financial pressure on poor and middle-class families.

The initiative is expected to leverage India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), along with the country’s pool of teachers and educational talent, to create a nationwide digital network for examination preparation. By bringing these resources together on an online platform, the government aims to make quality learning opportunities accessible to students irrespective of their financial background or location.

The move could be particularly significant for students in smaller towns and rural areas, where access to established coaching centres and specialised teachers can be limited. Online learning platforms can potentially reduce geographical barriers and allow students to access teaching resources.

The two announcements highlight the increasing emphasis on using digital infrastructure to expand access to education and skills. While AI training is aimed at preparing young people for emerging opportunities in the technology-driven economy, free examination coaching seeks to address the affordability and accessibility for the competitive exam preparation.
