The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme is one of the government’s income-support schemes made for the welfare of farmers. Under this scheme, farmers who are eligible will receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000. This scheme uses the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to make the transfers into the beneficiaries' accounts.
The next payment is expected around October 2026, no announcement has been made by the government yet. The scheme provides income support to farmer families that meet the eligibility criteria. State governments and Union Territory administrations identify the eligible candidates based on land records and other requirements. However, certain farmers remain excluded from receiving these benefits; these include institutional landholders, current and former holders of constitutional posts, ministers, and serving or retired government employees. Farmers who acquired land ownership after February 01, 2019, and those with many beneficiaries also face requirements of verification under the rules set under the scheme.
The PM-Kisan scheme is for the farmers who fulfil the following conditions:
Indian citizen
Owns cultivable land
Should be a marginal farmer
Not be someone who receives a pension of at least Rs 10,000 per month
Not having filed for income tax.
In order to benefit from this scheme, one must register on the official PM Kisan portal. It is crucial for farmers to complete the e-KYC; otherwise, the instalments can be delayed.
Here is how you can register yourself.
Visit the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi website and navigate to the KYC section.
Enter your Aadhaar number and registered mobile number.
Submit after verification with OTP.
If one does not receive the amount, they can reach out to their helpline number
Another addition to this is that the Farmer ID is now made mandatory for receiving these instalments. The government has linked the benefits of PM KISAN with a unique Farmer ID system. This is a part of the Farmer’s registry and AgriStack initiative. Beneficiaries who are not registered under this ID may face delays or may not receive the 23rd instalment and the payments after that.
If anyone’s payment hasn’t been credited after the official release, farmers should first check their beneficiary status, e-KYC completion, Aadhaar-bank linkage and land verification records. Any discrepancies should be corrected through the appropriate bank branch.
It is advised that farmers rely on government announcements rather than just unverified messages about the payment date. Completing all mandatory verification steps can help eligible beneficiaries receive their instalments on time.
