Punjab DA Hike: State Government Employees, Pensioners To Get 8% Increase

The Punjab government has notified its government officials, employees and pensioners of an 8 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA). The revised DA is expected to tale effect from September 01, 2026, taking the total DA rate from 42 per cent to 50 per cent. This enhanced allowance will be applicable to eligible Punjab government employees and pensioners.

This decision came after a series of discussions between employee representatives and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on various service-related issues, including the demand for an increase in DA. According to a report by Livemint, the enhanced allowance is intended to provide additional financial support to employees and pensioners, as household expenses and the prices of goods continue to rise. The government formally notified the 8 per cent increase after the discussions with the employee representatives. The revised rate means eligible employees will now receive DA equivalent to 50 per cent of their basic pay, as compared with 42 per cent earlier.

How Much Benefit Will Employees Get?

The financial benefit from this revision will depend on the employees will depend on the employee’s basic pay because DA is calculated as a percentage of the basic salary. For instance, an employee with a basic pay of Rs 30,000 would see an increase of nearly Rs 2,400 a month from an 8 percentage point increase in DA. For someone with a basic pay of Rs 50,000, the corresponding increase would be nearly Rs 4,000 per month. The actual amount that is credited can vary depending on the applicable pay structure and other components of the salary.
