Monthly passes simplify frequent toll travel for local commuters.
In a recent update on how individuals commute and travel through highways, it is stated that travel is about to become difficult for people living close to toll plazas. As per PTI, residents who are living within the 20-kilometre radius of toll plazas can now purchase local monthly passes through the RajmargYatra mobile application. This update came through the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The new facility is aimed at simplifying the process for local commuters who use the toll plaza on a more frequent basis than others. Under the earlier system, eligible residents had to visit the toll plazas in person to purchase these passes by submitting documents to establish their residence within a 20 km radius of the plaza.
With the announcement, this facility has been made digital through the RajmargYatra App. Users can apply for the pass online, submit the required details and complete the process without having to visit the plaza. This local pass allows eligible residents to travel through their respective toll plazas for one month. The initiative is expected to make the process more convenient for people who regularly cross these plazas.
As per NHAI, the facility is being introduced through the app, which would provide a range of highway-related services to users. The app has been developed as a digital interface for highway users, which enables them to access services related to tolls and travel.
This online facility is a major step towards digitising toll-related services. By shifting the whole process online, NHAI aims to reduce the need for physical visits and streamline the verification process for its local residents. This facility is made available to those who are well within the 20-kilometre radius from the toll plaza. In-person and online users both have to complete their application process and provide the necessary information. This move is aimed at being fair to those living in close proximity to the plaza. For them, the monthly local pass acts as a simpler alternative to paying toll charges on every trip.
This facility is part of NHAI’s broader effort to use technology and digitalise toll services and improve convenience for road users. For residents living near toll plazas, the digital process could make a monthly local pass a faster and more convenient option.
