A massive UP government job scam has been uncovered in Uttar Pradesh’s health department, where six impostors allegedly posed as X-ray technicians using the same personal details to secure multiple jobs. The fraud continued undetected for nearly nine years, resulting in an estimated loss of around Rs 4.5 crore to the state exchequer.
According to a report by The Times of India, the case involves Arpit Singh, a candidate from Agra who was selected by the UP Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) in 2016. He was listed at serial number 80 among 403 candidates selected for X-ray technician posts. Investigators found that six other individuals joined the health department in different districts using his name, father’s name, and date of birth. These impostors secured postings in Balrampur, Farrukhabad, Banda, Rampur, Amroha, and Shamli by producing forged Aadhaar cards and cloned appointment letters.
Each of the fake recruits drew a monthly salary of Rs 69,595, accumulating crores over the years. The scam came to light after the state government’s Manav Sampada portal flagged multiple employees with identical personal details during an online verification drive. Investigators are now collecting service files and joining letters from all six districts.
Following a complaint by Dr. Ranjana Khare, Director (Paramedical), an FIR was registered at Wazirganj police station. The accused have been booked under IPC sections for cheating by impersonation (419), cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property (420), forgery of valuable security (467), forgery for cheating (468), and using forged documents as genuine (471).
According to the report, police confirmed that the impostors have absconded, locking their residences and switching off phones, making recovery of the siphoned salaries a major challenge.
The recruitment, which took place under the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government, has now taken a political turn. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed Deputy CM and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak to ensure strict action against those involved. The scam affected multiple districts over several years, with the salaries drawn under the same identity still unaccounted for.
