West Bengal Govt Announces Pay Hikes For Over 1 Lakh Employees, Contractual Staff

The West Bengal government has approved increases in monthly remuneration and allowances for more than 100,000 employees and contractual staff. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the decisions on September 8, 2026, adding that the measures will involve an additional annual expenditure of around Rs 390 crore.

West Bengal Announces Hikes For Para-Teachers

The biggest groups covered by the decision are para-teachers working at primary and upper-primary levels. From November 1, the monthly remuneration of 20,343 primary level para-teachers will increase by Rs 5,000, from Rs 11,941 to Rs 16,941. For 21,849 upper primary para-teachers, the monthly remuneration will also increase by Rs 5,000, taking it from Rs 15,523 to Rs 20,523.

The government has also approved higher remuneration for 2,280 Siksha Bandhus. Their monthly remuneration will increase by Rs 5,000 from the existing Rs 9,954. The revised amount has been fixed at Rs 16,941. The remuneration of 21 special educators will also increase by Rs 5,000 from November 1. Their monthly remuneration will rise from Rs 14,924 to Rs 20,896.

Hikes For School Education Staff

For 2,174 management staff, the increase will depend on their current remuneration. Those receiving Rs 25,000 or less will get a hike of Rs 5,000. Those drawing up to Rs 40,000 will receive Rs 7,000 more, while those receiving above Rs 40,000 and up to Rs 55,000 will get an increase of Rs 10,000.

The government has also approved a monthly salary hike of Rs 5,000 for 30,592 Sahayaks, or teachers, working at Sishu Siksha Kendras (SSKs). The 6,291 Samprasaris, or teachers, at Madhyamik Siksha Kendras (MSKs) will also receive Rs 5,000 more each month.

For 327 Mukhya Samprasaris, or head teachers, at MSKs, the monthly remuneration will increase by Rs 6,000. The remuneration of 492 academic supervisors will increase by Rs 5,000.

Forest Staff, Former MLAs Get Higher Allowances

The state cabinet has also approved higher allowances for deputy rangers, foresters, head forest guards, and forest guards. Their monthly allowances will increase by Rs 5,000 from October 1. The remuneration of 1,500 forest assistants will increase by Rs 2,000 from the same date.

Separate decisions cover former MLAs and serving legislators. The monthly medical allowance for former MLAs has been increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 with effect from August 1. MLAs operating Seva Kendras named after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose will receive Rs 30,000 a month towards their operation from June 1.
