The recent Aadhaar updates have confused people. Several media reports have claimed that Aadhar cardholders can update their name, date of birth, and mobile number through the online Aadhar portal from November 1, 2025. However, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website shows that this is not true. As of now, only the address can be updated online.
The UIDAI has introduced new processes for updating the Aadhaar details card from November 1, 2025.
According to the UIDAI portal, only the address can be updated online, as of now. All other demographic details still require you to be present for an in-person visit to the Aadhar enrolment centre. If you are planning to change your details, such as name, date of birth/age, gender, phone number, or email address, you have to visit the Aadhaar centre near you.
Here are the services you can avail of online - update address, download Aadhar copy, order Aadhar PVC card, update documents (address), generate virtual ID.
For all other personal details, such as change of name, address, age, gender, mobile number, email address, relationship status as well as the biometric details such as iris, fingerprints, facial photograph, require you to be present at the Aadhaar centre.
According to the UIDAI website, you can not update your mobile number online, you must go to the Aadhar Enrolment Centre in person after getting an appointment. Your current mobile number would still be required to book this appointment.
As for the address updates, you can do it through the online Aadhar portal. Aadhar card holders can directly place the request for Aadhar address change on the portal.
As of now, UIDAI has not issued any notice confirming or denying these claims on demographic changes of name, date of birth, or mobile number.
The changes at the centre can be done at a very small price of Rs 75, if it is done without updating biometrics. For age groups 5-7 years and 15-17 years, the updates can be done completely free of cost. For other age groups the cost is Rs 125. Uploading and updating of documents remains free on the myAadhar portal until June 14, 2026.
