Mumbai secured the 17th position in Asia Pacific and 91st globally in the Next-Generation Wealth Hubs Index, according to the latest Savills report, Spotlight on Wealth Trends 2026. This particular ranking highlights India’s growing wealth creation and the evolving role of family offices, real estate and investment planning in preserving wealth for future generations.

The report’s ranking is based on growth pillars such as business, governance and connectivity; wealth clusters; tax brackets; and lifestyle. These factors provide a framework for assessing the appeal of cities to the next generation of wealthy individuals and families.

Family offices and real estate shape India’s wealth landscape

Family offices are playing an increasingly important role in India by driving structured investments while also managing succession planning and supporting philanthropic activities. Their growing relevance reflects the need for wealthy families to manage assets across generations. This includes aligning investment decisions with long-term financial objectives.

Real estate is still a cornerstone of wealth preservation and family legacy in India, no matter the income bracket. Property acquisitions are often made with future generations in mind, positioning real estate as more than an investment asset. It also serves as a means of preserving family wealth over the long term.

Arvind Nandan, Managing Director, Research, Savills India, says “the city’s presence in the index reflects the pace of domestic wealth creation and the growing role of family offices in investment structuring, succession planning and philanthropy”.

It also notes that demand is growing for luxury living, wellness-focused services and convenience-led residential products, indicating how the preferences of affluent households are influencing the real estate market.

India among economies attracting wealth

The report identifies India, as well as Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as dynamic economies that are attracting attention because of strong wealth creation opportunities, with infrastructure investments and improving lifestyles.
