Aradhana Cultural Fest To Celebrate ‘Graceful Ageing’ Held In Delhi

The event showcased various Indian classical music and dance performances by artists like Pt. Sajan Mishra and Guru Ranjana Gauhar.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on Thursday hosted the Aradhana cultural event themed “Celebrating Graceful Ageing - Life Begins at 60” in New Delhi to highlight the contributions of senior citizens, the importance of active ageing and intergenerational relationships.

MoS Social Justice and Empowerment, B.L. Verma, was the chief guest at the event. In his address, he highlighted the critical role older people play in preserving culture, stating, “The essence of our cultural identity is deeply rooted in the knowledge and wisdom of our elders.”  

The minister said, “Aradhana is more than simply a celebration of graceful ageing; it is a homage to our older folks’ everlasting contributions to preserving India’s traditions and cultural values.” Verma also emphasised the collective efforts to keep the elderly people engaged in society, ensuring they “live with dignity, respect, and security”. 

Aabha Chaudhary, chairperson of the NGO Anugraha, which organised the event, stressed the importance of recognising people who dedicated their lives to conserving Indian art and tradition.  

The event showcased various Indian classical music and dance performances by artists like Pt. Sajan Mishra and Guru Ranjana Gauhar. It also featured colourful folk dances from different parts of India to demonstrate cultural diversity and the role of senior artists in maintaining them.

Monali Dhakate, the joint secretary, emphasised the ministry’s commitment to supporting seniors through health, financial security, and social inclusion programmes. Senior artists participating in the event were honoured for their lifelong dedication to preserving the Indian cultural legacy.
