PM Kisan Samman Nidhi: Who Can Apply And What Are Its Benefits?

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana provides financial assistance to farmers with cultivable land holdings through an annual budgetary allocation. It allocated Rs.75,000 crore during the launch in 2019. The scheme supports small and marginal farmers nationwide by procuring yields and providing inputs for crop health. The central government transfers Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments every four months to each eligible farmer's bank account through the direct benefit transfer mode, except for certain exclusions.

Benefits

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme is a financial assistance programme for farmers that was launched by the central government in 2019. The scheme aims to discourage farmers from falling into the debt trap of moneylenders for small sums of money and boost soil fertility and food production. Farmers can register for the scheme online, or through the state nodal officers, local revenue officers and “patwaris”.

Scheme Exclusions

The scheme does not cover farmers of higher economic status, including institutional landholders, affluent farmer families, former and present constitutional post holders, former and present members of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, state legislative assemblies, state legislative councils, mayors of municipal corporations, chairpersons of district panchayats, serving or retired officers and employees of central and state government ministries, officers of central and state public sector enterprises (PSEs), autonomous government institutions, employees of the local bodies, pensioners with monthly pensions of Rs.10,000 or more, persons paying income tax, and professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and architects.

Application process

The applicant will need an Aadhaar card, landholding papers, and bank account details. The village-level entrepreneur (VLE) will need farmer registration details, address with state, district, block, village, etc., Aadhaar number, name, category, bank details, land registration ID, and date of birth. Land details will includesurvey/Kahta No., Khasra No., land area, etc. Upload all the documents, including land, bank and personal details. Self-declareand accept and save the application form. After saving the form, make the payment using your common service centre (CSC) ID. Check the beneficiary status using the Aadhaar number.
