Sanjeevani Yojana Registration For Elderly In Delhi Starts Today: Know How It Works

The Sanjeevani Yojana for the elderly in Delhi is set to begin registration today. Along with it, the scheme for all women providing monthly financial assistance will also commence

The Delhi government’s two schemes, Sanjeevani Yojana and Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana are open for registration starting today, December 23, 2025. While the Sanjeevani Yojana is designed for senior citizens, the Mahila Samman Yojana is exclusively for women in the city. Both schemes were announced earlier and are now open for beneficiaries to register.

What Is Sanjeevani Yojana, And How Does It Work?

The scheme aims to provide medical treatment to its beneficiaries. Reportedly, any permanent resident of Delhi aged 60 years and above can register for the scheme. There is no income-level criterion to qualify for the scheme, as well as there is no upper limit on the treatment costs covered.

Medical expense is a big concern for the elderly and especially for those who do not have a certain source of income. The scheme aims to address this issue and provide proper medical care and treatment to the elderly. The elderly do not need to go anywhere or stand in queues but volunteers will come to their homes and register them. “Elderly people will be registered at their homes by AAP volunteers”, said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, as reported by PTI.

However, the scheme is not available to government employees (current and retired), Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, or individuals who were taxpayers in the previous financial year.

Beneficiaries will be issued a Kejriwal Kavach Card to access the facilities. The treatment will be available at both government and private hospitals, and all the expenses will be borne by the Delhi government.

Notably, the Delhi government has not implemented the Central Government’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which is for senior citizens aged 70 and above, providing up to Rs 5 lakh in health insurance benefits. In contrast, the Sanjeevani Yojana covers all senior citizens aged 60 and above and has no upper limit on treatment costs.

Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana

The Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana was announced in the March 2024-25 state budget. The scheme proposed to provide Rs 1,000 per month to eligible women beneficiaries, however, recently, it has proposed to increase the monthly assistance from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,100, if it retains power in the upcoming state elections.

The eligible women are those aged at least 18 years old, not taxpayers, and not beneficiaries of any other pension scheme.

“I believe that around 35 to 40 lakh women may benefit from the 'Mahila Samman Yojana.' Similarly, I estimate that around 10 to 15 lakh senior citizens could benefit from the 'Sanjeevani Yojana.' This is a big step, and I encourage everyone to take full advantage of these schemes", reads the X message by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.

Eligible applicants do not need to visit any office for registration, as volunteers will visit their homes to enroll them in the scheme.
