Senior Citizens Don’t Need To Stand In Queue To Get Ayushman Card In Delhi, Mobile Vans To Facilitate Registration

Senior citizens in Delhi will no longer need to stand in a queue to get their Ayushman Bharat Vaya Vandana Card. After launching the scheme in Delhi on April 10, 2025, the government started distributing the Ayushman cards to the beneficiaries on April 28. After registration, beneficiaries can avail themselves of insurance coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat Vaya Vandana Yojana, which includes Rs 5 lakh cover each provided by the central and Delhi governments.

The government has flagged off a mobile registration campaign on May 3, 2025, with an aim to register beneficiaries and provide them with the cards at the utmost convenience. Under this campaign, mobile vans will operate as points of presence for senior citizens to register under the Ayushman scheme. These vans will operate in all 70 assembly constituencies to register eligible senior citizens.

How To Register Under The Scheme?

Seniors can register themselves for the scheme online through the Ayushman portal, but those not privy to using digital tools and internet can do it offline as well. Mobile vans will provide registration facility. To get it done offline, seniors only need to carry their aadhaar card and mobile phone and no other documents. Senior citizens will no longer need to stand in queue for registering themselves.

These will not be stationed at a point, instead will be visiting different locations, such as resident welfare association (RWA) complexes, to outreach and encourage seniors to register.

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also talked about plans to establish around 14-15 Arogya Mandirs (health and wellness centres) in each assembly constituency to benefit people by providing preventive medicines, primary care, and Ayush treatment. The healthcare plan also includes establishing an integrated public health laboratory and nine critical care blocks.

28,000 Senior Citizens Register Within Five Days:

Around 28,000 eligible senior citizens (ages 70 years and above) have registered under the scheme since April 28, 2025.

As per the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Portal, 93 hospitals are empanelled under the scheme. One can avail of treatments for over 1,929 procedures. The most significant benefit of the scheme is that it covers all the pre-existing diseases from day one, which may not be available in other insurance schemes.

With medical inflation rising at around 14 per cent, having insurance coverage is crucial; however, due to high premiums, many seniors can’t afford it. Such older adults can avail of the Ayushman Yojana at no cost by registering themselves under the scheme.
