Inside Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 Crore Legacy: What His Children Stand To Inherit

The sudden death of industrialist Sunjay Kapur during a polo match in England has cast a spotlight on his sprawling fortune and what lies ahead for his heirs. As chairman of Sona Comstar and a familiar face in both corporate and social circles, Kapur leaves behind an estate estimated at over Rs 30,000 crore, according to a recent report by NDTV.

How Children Receive Inheritance 

Naturally, the question on everyone’s mind is what happens next, especially when it comes to his three children: Samaira and Kiaan, from his marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, and Azarius, his son with current wife Priya Sachdev.

Karisma, by virtue of her divorce, isn’t legally entitled to Kapur’s assets. But their children are. According to those familiar with the matter, Sunjay had already made financial provisions for them well before his death. Reports suggest Samaira and Kiaan each have fixed deposits and income bonds worth Rs 14 crore, with monthly earnings of around Rs 10 lakh. These arrangements seem designed to secure their futures without waiting for formal inheritance proceedings.

As for Azarius, the youngest, much less is publicly known. But given that he lived with Kapur and Priya Sachdev, and is their biological child, it’s expected he will inherit a substantial portion of the estate. For now, Priya is likely to manage much of the family’s financial affairs, especially since all three children are still minors.

Will Or No Will? Legal Path Ahead Remains Crucial

Behind closed doors, though, not everything may be straightforward. Family insiders hint at murmurs of unease, particularly from Kapur’s mother, who reportedly isn’t fully comfortable with how things are being handled. There’s no word of any legal action, but with an empire of this size, some friction isn’t surprising.

From a legal perspective, if Sunjay Kapur had left behind a valid will, it would dictate who would inherit what. If not, Indian inheritance laws will divide the assets equally among his children. Since Sona Comstar is a listed company, any transfer of its state to that company has to follow legal protocols and receive shareholder approval. 

So far, the family has chosen to remain silent to avoid a media circus. For now, the focus is on stability, both emotional and financial.
