Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) has said Rani Kapur, mother of the late Sunjay Kapur, is not a shareholder in the company, according to a recent news report by NDTV. The clarification came after Rani requested a deferment of the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), stating that she had been under emotional strain and had signed certain documents under duress.

AGM Goes Ahead Despite Objection

As planned on July 25, the company’s AGM was held. In a letter sent earlier, Rani Kapur had urged the board to postpone the meeting, citing her son’s recent death and alleging that she had been coerced into signing papers related to the company.

Sona Comstar responded in writing: “Mrs. Rani Kapur has not been a shareholder since 2019 and is not included in the current list of shareholders. The company has complied with all necessary legal procedures regarding the AGM.”

Death Of Sunjay Kapur Raises Questions

Sunjay Kapur died suddenly on June 12 while playing polo in Windsor, England. He was 53. According to initial reports, he may have suffered a heart attack triggered by an allergic reaction after accidentally swallowing a bee.

Kapur’s death came without warning, leaving a leadership vacuum at the company. He had served as chairman and was credited with expanding Sona Comstar into an international supplier for electric vehicle manufacturers.
