Each asset class behaves differently, and importantly, they do not all move in the same direction at the same time. When assets that behave differently are combined, the swings of one can offset the swings of another. The result is a portfolio whose overall volatility is lower than that of its most volatile component. A blend of equity, debt, gold, silver, and other commodities has historically shown lower volatility than a pure equity portfolio, while still improving the consistency of compounding over time. The investor experiences fewer of the stomach-churning falls that often lead to poor decisions.
