Bank branches will remain open on August 1, 2026 as it falls on the first Saturday of the month. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Banks also do not operate on Sundays. Banks generally remain open on the first, third and fifth Saturdays, unless a particular Saturday is declared a holiday under the RBI’s holiday calendar.

So, customers visiting bank branches can carry out routine banking activities, such as cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque-related services, account updates, and other branch-based financial services today.

Other Bank Closures Scheduled In August 2026

Apart from regular closures on Saturdays and Sundays in the month of August, banks will also observe several state-wise holidays along with the national holiday of Independence Day on August 15. Bank branches across India will remain closed on this day. Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi) will also be observed on the same date in certain regions.

Other regional festivals in August include Ker Puja, Patriot’s Day, Milad-Un-Nabi, Onam-related holidays, Raksha Bandhan, Pang-Lhabsol, Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi and Ayyankali Jayanthi. Banks may remain closed on these days in the respective states and regions where these festivals are observed.

In addition to these holidays, banks will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, which fall on August 8 and August 22, respectively. All Sundays, including August 2, August 9, August 16, August 23 and August 30, will also be observed as bank holidays.

Customers planning branch visits later in the month should check the applicable holiday schedule for their state to avoid inconvenience. While physical branches may remain closed on certain holidays, digital banking facilities, such as Netbanking, mobile banking and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will remain operational as usual.
