Which Banks Are Open Today

The special Sunday working arrangement applies to PSBs and RRBs. The Ministry of Finance has directed these banks to operate normally today. The Reserve Bank of India has also approved the arrangement for regular bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests.

Customers planning a branch visit should check the operating hours of their particular branch before travelling, as timings can vary by location.

Private sector banks are not covered by the Centre's announcement. Customers of private banks should therefore check their respective bank's schedule before visiting a branch today.

Why Are Banks Open On A Sunday

The Sunday opening has been arranged ahead of a three-day nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).

The strike is scheduled for September 28, 29 and 30. September 26 and 27 also fall on the weekend, creating a longer period during which customers could have limited access to physical bank branches.

Opening PSBs and RRBs today gives customers an additional opportunity to complete banking work that requires a branch visit. The central government and bank management have also appealed to the unions to defer the proposed strike.

What Banking Services Are Available Today

Branches covered by the special arrangement will operate as they normally do on a working day, subject to their individual timings and local arrangements.

Customers can use today's working day for services that require a physical branch visit, including requests that involve bank staff, documents or in-person verification.

Digital banking services such as internet banking, mobile banking and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) are also available for many routine transactions. Services requiring physical documents or branch-level assistance may still require a visit to the bank.
