Why Banks Remain Closed On Certain Saturdays

Under RBI guidelines, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks across India remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, along with all Sundays. Branches generally remain operational on the first, third and fifth Saturdays unless a separate public holiday is declared.

Apart from weekend holidays, banks also shut operations for national holidays, state-specific festivals and regional observances notified by RBI.

Digital Banking Services To Function

Non-branch related banking services such as UPI payments, ATM withdrawals, debit and credit card transactions, internet banking, and mobile banking apps will function as usual during the holidays. Online banking is also available for customers to make transfers via NEFT and RTGS.

Several non-cash services, such as chequebook requests, account maintenance requests, standing instruction set-up and certain card-related services, will also be available online.

In some cases, however, banks may schedule maintenance during these closures that could temporarily impact digital services. In such cases, customers are typically notified beforehand via official communication received on their registered mobile numbers through SMS, email, or via banking application notifications.

Customers May Need To Schedule Branch Visits Accordingly
